Yipee, finally got hold of PowerPoint 2007! Here’s the run down:
There are now many effects that can be applied to text, images, shapes, graphs and tables. The different effects that can be applied are:
- Shadow
- Reflection
- Glow
- Bevel
- 3D Rotation
- Transform
Shadow’s can be done like the traditional dropshadow (which now on pc is also smooth like on a mac), as well as the perspective shadow which falls to the back or front of an object. Can’t be applied to everything, but most things.
This image was a picture just inserted into PPT ’07 and everything else was done in PPT, the rounded corners, the border, reflection and shadow.
This above image is completely done within PPT ’07 (excluding the 3 pic’s) and is also completely editable within PPT ’07.
There are also many many many various layouts for creating different diagrams and layouts (wait ’till the secretaries get hold of this).
View, master, slide master (a few of the old linkies will get this). There are ton’s of masters to create and you can even create more.
There’s a whole bunch of other stuffs in PPT ’07 which can make our job easier and yet more painful. I’ve found that the graphs don’t play nice when it comes to reflections and shadows, they still look better though. Also in terms of compatibility, any effects done to images are preserved when you save for the old PowerPoint version but you pretty much lose any effects on text and shapes when saving to older formats. Graphs and diagrams are also converted to PNG’s when saving to older formats.
There’s also a PowerPoint 2007 Player which is freely available here.
Oh and Office 2007 will be available for the macs at the end of the year, so I suggest maybe getting one PC copy in the JHB offices in the meantime to play around with? I must enjoy PPT ’07 while it lasts ‘coz I can open mine 13 more times before the demo runs out
